The on-site spotting being over, we can now take the mushroom back home, load the identification page in a web browser, and make the observations to answer the questions in the form, one by one, as they come.
Preliminary question : category of the mushroom
When the identification web page is loaded, several identification keys are proposed, as shown below:
first selection: the mushroom category |
At this stage, one has to identify the class the mushroom belongs to (mushrooms with gills, or tubes, or spines, etc.). This is very simple: just turn the mushroom upside down, and take a look at the (fertile) surface underneath. In our example, one can clearly see that the mushroom to identify has pores and tubes and not gills nor spines, nor a flat fertile surface. Doing so, we can also notice that the stem is well centered at the cap's middle.
The mushroom has pores, and it has a central stem |
First answers to enter
We will now select in the pages the choice which suits our situation. For the time being, it's only a matter of selecting the most adequate identification engine. We can go back any time to the previous page by clicking on the "previous page" icon of the web browser, or the one provided at the bottom of the page.
The mushroom has pores and tubes, we therefore click on the corresponding link, "mushrooms with tubes and pores"... |
... then on the next page, since the mushroom has a central stem and a single cap, on the link "with a non lateral stem" |
