The fruiting body is rosette-shaped, or an assembly of flattened branches, fused at the base, purple-brown, without any distinctive stem.
The fertile surface is smooth.
It grows on the ground, in broad-leaved and coniferous woods, parks, with oaks, beech, lime.
The fruiting period takes place from July to December.
