Cantharellus pallens Pilàt |
The cap is pale yellow, covered at first by a white dew, turning yellow then rusty when manipulated, convex to funnel-shaped, then depressed at the centre; its margin is incurved a long time, then irregular, thick, lobed and wavy. The cap surface is smooth, dry. The stem is whitish to pale yellow, turning yellow when manipulated, without ring. The flesh is whitish, turning yellow then rust when exposed to air; its taste is pleasant; the odour is faint, fruity; its texture is fibrous. The gills are yellow, same colour as cap, but these are not gills, but folds or ridges, quite distant, decurrent and forked . The spore print is pale ochre cream. This species is mycorrhizal. It grows on the ground, in broad-leaved woods mostly (also with conifers), with oak and beech. The fruiting period takes place from June to November.
Distinctive features : Entirely pale yellow to pale orange; cap covered with a whitish dew in the youth; turns yellow-rust when manipulated; stem not clearly distinguished from cap; cap margin often wavy; fertile surface under cap composed of decurrent vein-like ridges, not gills Cantharellus pallens is quite rare and scattered in the forest of Rambouillet, and is frequent, more generally speaking . | ||
