The fruiting body is cup-shaped, shallow and convex, with black hairs at the margin, with a bright red-orange internal surface, the external surface being pale brown, very hairy. The flesh is reddish, brittle; its taste is not distinctive; the odour is not distinctive. The fertile surface is smooth. The spore print is white.It grows on wood or on the ground, in marshlands, wet places, on rotten wood or damp ground, often amongst moss. The fruiting period takes place all year long.
Chemical tests : asci tips not blued with Melzer's reagent. Distinctive features : disc-chaped, red, regular, smaller than 1cm wide, with long hairs at the margin (up to 2mm long); in damp areas Scutellinia scutellata is quite rare and scattered in the forest of Rambouillet, and is frequent, more generally speaking . | ||
