The fruiting body is cup-shaped, often in tufts, with a violet-brown internal surface, the external surface being lilac-grey or grey-brown, slightly hairy.

The flesh is yielding a liquid when cut;

The fertile surface is smooth.

It grows on the ground, mostly on burnt ground, fire places, but also in humus-poor but mineral-rich ground.

The fruiting period takes place from April to December.
Dimensions: width of fruiting body approximately 3 cm (between 1 and 5 cm)
  total height approximately 1.5 cm (between 1 and 1.5 cm)

Peziza violacea is still unreported so far in the forest of Rambouillet, and is quite rare, more generally speaking .
