The cap is brown scales on a cream background, hemispherical then expanded, with a clear umbo; its margin is smooth or with scales hanging. The cap surface is scaly, not viscid nor sticky. The stem is finely scaly, white with brown stains, bulbous, with a simple membranous ring, not fringed, not very mobile. The flesh is white, unchanging; its taste is pleasant, nutty; the odour is pleasant, of walnut or butter; its texture is fibrous. The gills are white, free, crowded . The spore print is white. This species is saprophytic or mycorrhizal. It grows on the ground, in grasslands: meadows, clearings, wood edges or open deciduous woods. The fruiting period takes place from July to December.
