The cap is scarlet red, orange to yellow, then eventually black, bell-shaped to conical then expanded, with an acute umbo when flattened; its margin is irregularly lobed. The cap surface is smooth, fibrillose, waxy, silky, slightly or not viscid. The stem is orange-yellow with a white base, washed wih red, later becoming black from the base up, more or less equal, greasy, without any ring. The flesh is yellowish in the cap, whitish in the stem, blackening when exposed to air and with age; its taste is mild; the odour is faint, not distinctive; its texture is fibrous. The gills are white then pale yellowish, not blackening that much, emarginate, adnate-ascending to almost free, distant, thick and broad . The spore print is white. This species is saprophytic. It grows on the ground, in the grass of woodlands, clearings or meadows. The fruiting period takes place from July to November.
