The fruiting body is white-pink cream to dark brown, banded, with a felty, brown stem.

The fertile surface is made of whitish to reddish brown spines. The spore print is brown.

It grows on the ground, in broad-leaved and coniferous woods.

The fruiting period takes place from September to December.
