The cap is mitre-shaped, with a dark brown, grey-brown to blackish internal surface, the external being lighter, with a well differentiated stem, whitish to cream, short, smooth, irregular (non circular).

The fertile surface is smooth.

It grows on the ground, in dunes, forests with sandy soils, dry lawns.

The fruiting period takes place from March to June.
Dimensions: width of cap approximately 5 cm (between 3 and 6 cm)
  total height approximately 6 cm (between 3 and 10 cm)

Distinctive features : sorry, no English description yet

Helvella spadicea is still unreported so far in the forest of Rambouillet, and is quite rare, more generally speaking .
