The fruiting body is globular then disk-shaped, flattened and without warts, black (dark red-brown when young).

The fertile surface is smooth. The spore print is black (dark brown young).

It grows on wood, on dead wood recently felled.

The fruiting period takes place from September to March.
Dimensions: width of fruiting body approximately 2.5 cm (between 1 and 5 cm)
  total height approximately 1.5 cm (between 1 and 2 cm)
