The cap is grey to lilac grey. The cap surface is smooth, viscid or sticky.

The flesh is unchanging; its taste is mild; the odour is not distinctive; its texture is fibrous.

The gills are free to adnate, crowded . The spore print is rusty brown. This species is saprophytic. It grows on dead wood, with beech, birch, poplar.

The fruiting period takes place from June to November.
