The fruiting body is rosette-shaped, with and lobed margin, purple-brown, without stem, but with a distinct central trunk.

The fertile surface is smooth.

It grows on the ground, in coniferous woods, with pine.

The fruiting period takes place from August to October.

Thelephora caryophyllea is still unreported so far in the forest of Rambouillet, and is quite rare, more generally speaking .
