The cap is chestnut brown to blackish, with scales at the centre, convex then expanded. The cap surface is with dark brown scales at the centre. The stem is cream, with brown fibrils on a white background towards base, without ring. The flesh is white, unchanging; its taste is mild; the odour is faint, pleasant; its texture is fibrous. The gills are white, then salmon pink, with a black edge, free, crowded . The spore print is pink. This species is saprophytic. It grows on dead wood, on stumps or dead coniferous wood, mostly on pine. The fruiting period takes place from April to March.
