The fruiting body is cup-shaped, tufted, split on one side, with a tawny to dark brown internal surface, the external surface being ochre-buff.

The fertile surface is smooth.

It grows on the ground, in broad-leaved woods, in the grass or on bare ground.

The fruiting period takes place from April to December.
