The fruiting body is cup-shaped, with a whitish to pale grey internal surface, the external surface being red-brown, covered with brownish hair.

The fertile surface is smooth.

It grows on wood or on the ground, in coniferous or deciduous woods, on sandy or clayey grounds (or on dead wood).

The fruiting period takes place from July to December.
