The cap is deeply cup-shaped, supported by the ridge-like ends of the stem up to the top, with an ash-grey to brownish grey internal surface, the external being whitish, with a well differentiated stem, short, veined or furrowed, with protruding ridges assembled in veins. The fertile surface is smooth. It grows on the ground, in broad-leaved and coniferous woods, on a rather calcareous soil. The fruiting period takes place from June to September.
Distinctive features : sorry, no English description yet Helvella costifera is still unreported so far in the forest of Rambouillet, and is quite rare, more generally speaking .
