The cap is mitre- or saddle-shaped or twisted disk-shaped, folded back on itself, with a dark brown to blackish internal surface, the external being paler, with a well differentiated stem, of clay colour, full of a white marrow.

The fertile surface is smooth.

It grows on the ground, in broad-leaved and coniferous woods.

The fruiting period takes place from July to December.

  width of stem approximately 5 mm (between 3 and 7 mm)
