The fruiting body is sphere-shaped, hollow, buried, later opening into a star-shape, with a pale yellow to cream internal surface, the external surface being brown-red, covered with dark hairs.

The fertile surface is smooth.

It grows on the ground, in lawns, mostly with cedar trees, but also with yews.

The fruiting period takes place from January to June.
Dimensions: width of fruiting body approximately 5 cm (between 1 and 7 cm)
  total height approximately 3.5 cm (between 2 and 5 cm)
