The cap is pink-brown to tawny-red, fleshy, hemispherical, then convex and eventually flattened. The cap surface is dry, matt to downy or felty.

The stem is yellow, with a reddish base, and covered with a yellow-white network mostly visible on the stem's apex.

The flesh is yellow to reddish (stem base), turning blue moderately in cap when exposed to air; its taste is mild; the odour is faint, of fruit;

The tubes are short, bright yellow to olive-yellow, turning blue intensely when exposed to air.

The pores are bright yellow with reddish shades, small, turning to blue intensely when pressed. The spore print is olive-brown.

It grows in deciduous woods, on a rather calcareous soil, with oaks, chestnut trees.

The fruiting period takes place from July to November.
